Master’s programme in Geographical Information Systems
The iGEON programme is a joint GIS-programme between Lund University and ITC-University of Twente, Holland. If you want to learn how to analyse, simulate and present spatial phenomena with use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), then this is the master's programme for you.
The programme is a continuation of the old Luma-GIS-programme. Students who started before autumn 2013 are still following the Luma-GIS-programme and new students are all following the new iGEON-programme. For information about the old Luma programme contact igeon [at] igeon [dot] eu.
The aim of the programme is to offer the student a flexible and complete education in GIS. All the courses offered in this Master´s programme are internet based. The course material is presented as text, sound- and video presentations and students and teachers have contact through the internetforum, email or Skype. As a student you have the possibility to choose your own study-pace (100% or 50%).
As an iGEON student you will obtain the basic practical training of how to use the latest GIS software together with the needed theoretical background. You have the opportunity to learn database methods, cartography and extend your knowledge in GIS-methods within different fields of application.
After finishing the programme you will have the theoretical and practical knowledge for planning, implementing and using GIS within different application areas. Good knowledge of GIS applications are sought-after within all areas dealing with spatial information within:
- natural sciences
- social sciences and civil engineering
- within hydrology
- environmental issues, and
- within geographical planning on local, regional and national level
