Synoptic / mesoscale meteorology


Course contents

In this course, you will learn the dynamics of the most important weather systems. You will learn to describe and to analyse weather systems of different scales, from hundreds of kilometers (mesoscale) to the moving high- and low-pressure systems at a scale of several thousands of kilometres (synoptic scale). At the end of the course, you will be able to explain the influence of jet streams on development or strengthening of extra-tropical low-pressure systems.

Within the course, you will learn how to use satellite images of typical weather situations to analyse structures and dynamics of weather phenomena. 


Teaching will be in form of lectures, project group and seminars.
